Marriage Convention 2014 Quotables

Fy and Clement invited Alex and I to attend Marriage Convention 2014, I rem it was a rather touching session, ending w couples facing each other, and saying words of encouragement and love. Here's some quotes and handles to last us a lifetime:

什么时候需要婚姻?苦难。感激。疗伤的时候。
Being understanding is more important than being right~~
Celebrate small wins together. Go through disappointments together. (Stay together).
What man needs from woman: 无论我多失败,他无条件的接纳我。
What woman needs from woman: 无论我分享什么,他都不批判我。
女人是愿意为男人牺牲,只要有讲出感激的话。
把婚姻进行到底~!

4 big weddings of 4 close friends coming up end of the year: Damon, Eugene Heng, Mel T, Mandy!

Tips for personal finance

You don't wanna owe money you can't pay. i'm basically against debt... there's no reason in the world to pay 18% a month...
it's a good idea to have savings - LOL
when you buy a farm, you dont look at the weather forecast, you look at how much it can produce and is that satisfactory to my cost

you can't dance in and out (of the market) everyday

i like this guy.

"Only put off until tomorrow what you are willing to die having left undone." - Pablo Picasso

my first read tells me that i shud/can stop working cos i'm willing to die leaving those things undone. go do other stuffs - leave a legacy with z, j, supergirl, weiwen, huiyi. reading a second time, it sounds more like it's asking us to do all that we can do today. don't put off til tmr cos u'll regret dying having left it undone.

nonetheless, it sounds nice. cos it's long and will most probably invoke a green wave in microsoft office calling "fragment".

it's just another day in yixin's life

there's been 2 counts of unglamness in the short span of 1.5weeks at work. major unglam. shall not advertise here. tho i truly believe they are rather entertaining :p actually i believe i must be one of the few souls remaining to love my own unglamness. hence i would like to think that it's a form of beauty, the beauty of being unglam!

***
I'm freaking out cos I'm just starting to search for who is that great guy behind the quote in my valediction. ("what lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us") This is how last minutes I get :/ Thank God for google which returned the search in 0.32seconds :)

May there be zero unglam moments tomorrow. I could have conjectured up this title in a way to prep myself of psyche tools in case i really unglam tmr. to normalize things shud one of the following occur:

spill drinks on prof? step on pro chancellors feet?? fall off the stage???

with yixin, all things are not impossible. it's just gonna be another day in yixin's life. stay calm...

***
Actually I got distracted and even before finding that quote, I strayed off to another quote:

"Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." ~Dr. Seuss

I don't know who is Dr. Seuss, but this guy makes a lot of sense. friends never condemn. another word for condemn is judge. perhaps i belong to the "don't matter" group. that's one unfriendly thot. discard. Perhaps I'd just choose to don't mind then. But I thot minding is a reflection of being bothered enough cos you are impt. Really don't know what to think.

Random: While bathing, I figured that on this day to wrap up our education, we are all gonna show up in uniforms. Duh.

Q Test

i miss reading some books i'm really interested in and headed down to the library. the library at hougang mall.... with kids... with normal ppl... not the suffocating mugger-infested central library.

borrowed Quirkology, which is packed with quirky stuff like measuring number of ppl fidgeting in lecture to see how boring a lecturer is (as in really conducting an expt to do that...) or constructing a special thermometer to monitor temp of water so that the tea is "full bodied and full tasted, and in no way bitter or flat", or chronopsychology (what does your birthday really tell about you? always been perplexed at why ppl bother to read birthday analyses, shall see what a psychologist say.)

what is the use of such a study? the criticism implied in this question has never bothered me, for any activity seems to me of value if it satisfies curiosity, stimulates ideas, and gives a new slant to our understanding of the social world.
- Stanley Milgram, the individual in a social world

very interesting right? just to satisfy the curiosity (note: not 'curiousity' thanks to gDoc spelling check) of the quirky world. actually, that's a huge value already.

it has a quirky cover:
with a quirky warning
duno what's the experiement yet, but i'm sure it'll be interesting.

---
the book began with "the mysterious Q test" (it's a quirky test with really not much hidden agenda... so just try...)

Using the first finger of your dominant hand, please trace out the capital 'Q' on your forehead.

don't read on until you've tried.
.

.

.
have u done the test?
do again and take note of the direction as you do it.
.

.
there are two ways of completing the exercise.
you can draw the letter 'Q' with the tail of the Q towards your right eye like this:

in this case, you can read it, but someone facing you can't.

Or you can draw it with the tail of the Q towards your left eye:
in this case, someone facing you can read it, but you can't.
---
the author says it'll reveal an important aspect of your life. in the next chapter... so i took a peep :p
this quick test provides a rough measure of a concept known as 'self-monitoring'.
High self-monitors tend to draw the letter Q in a way in which it could be seen by someone facing them.
Low self-monitors tend to draw the letter Q in a way in which it could be read by themselves.
and... this has smth to do with lying!
High self-monitors tend to be concerned with how other people see them. they are happy being the centre of attention, can easily adapt their behaviour to suit the situation in which they find themselves, and are skilled at manipulating the way in which others see them. as a result, they tend to be good at lying.
in contrast, low self-monitors come across as being the 'same person' in different situations. their behaviour is guided more by their inner feelings and values, and they are less aware of their impact on those around them. they also tend to lie less in life, and so not be so skilled at deceit.
---
the best part comes when the author reveals the result to his experimenters. he noticed that a small number of people who, upon hearing what the test is all about, quickly convince themselves that they traced the letter Q in the opposite direction to the way they actually drew it. these people are able to ignore the evidence right in front of them, and twist the facts to fit the person they want to be. As a result, the test provides a rough indicator of how good you are at deceiving both yourself and others.
---
i am a high self-monitor. it reminds me of peter's comment/scolding that i depend on others to be happy. :S i don't deny it. i need to see people being happy then i can be happy. i will adjust myself and do things, go the extra mile to make people happy the way i tink they'll be happy. i thot it's good, sometimes even noble of me, but actually it's just superficial. giving myself a pat on the back that oh, i've done well today. many times miss out what people really need/want. the worst part is then i expect ppl to do good to me... wah super unhealthy. well, at least i'm true to myself lar. true to my superficial self. but i'm trying to change k... to be consistent in feelings and values... and stop lying. mel also said very long ago that i always bluff her (and she always get conned). lying seems to be my forte, unfortunately. so much for being true to myself. i better stop deluding myself and others.
---
really excited to read the book! it'll go on about observations of the telltale signs of ppl lying..! hohoho~ i can blog abt the whole book lar! so interesting~!*

the happy files

quotes about being happy, koped from the KLM magazine on my flight from singapore to amsterdam... it's been 3 months... i am seriously a procrastinator...!

this really cheered me up on my flight. i'm such a little girl, saddened about leaving everybody... tears absolutely triggered by gay's letter. so here's my favourite quote:

if you want to be happy, be. - Leo Tolstoy (HUHHH dunno who.)

the most 欠打quote from arnold schwarzenegger:
money doesn't make you happy. I now have $50 million, but I was just as happy when I had $48 million.

the most inspiring quote:
think of all the beauty still left around you and be happy. - anne frank.

the most realistic quote:
happiness is nothing more than good health and a bad memory. (HAHA.)

the must-keep-in-mind quote:
even if happiness forgets you a little bit, never completely forget about it. -jacques prevert

don't like the other quotes from albert einstein and co. anw so many here already, hope you will be slightly inspired and just be happy..!

finally, the page ends with this:
and some inspirational words if you're feeling really unhappy...
"if you're going through hell, just keep going." - winston churchill

coincidentally, there's a number 2 on the title post-it. wells, just seeing the number makes me smile :)

a man with two watches can never get the time right.
*
well, i guess unless those two watches show the same time.
but that's not very wise of the man then to wear two watches...
and if he's not very wise,
he may have set both watches to the same time - the wrong time.
*
year end approaching...
re-calibrate priorities;
it's time.
